Since being part of BBC1’s prime-time programme “Pound Wars” my profile has risen considerably. In addition to this, we featured in a “Real Stories” documentary on ITV1. Tracy and I were also seen house hunting in an episode of “Million Pound Properties” on Channel 4. I’m also regularly interviewed on national & local TV, Radio, Newspapers and Magazines.

Steve
As a family we have always worked hard my grandad used to say if you do not work you do not eat this has always given me the drive to succeed.
As a child money was tight i used to live with my parents at my grandparents home. My mom worked for Ever Ready Batteries and my dad worked in a factory.
To make more money my parents used to push me round the houses in my pram selling pens. With the extra money they made they were able to rent a flat in Willenhall. Mom wanted it nice for us and I remember spending many nights cleaning graffiti off the lifts and sitting on the floor painting the patterns back in the carpet. Many nights we would share fish and chips between us.
It is always good to remember where you come from.

Tracy
They say that behind every successful man is a woman and that is certainly the case for Steve.
Tracy, Steve’s wife, was a key part of the business success from the early days, stacking shelves to overseeing payroll and HR right through to mass expansion and the sale of the business.
To this day, Tracy plays a key role in all of the Smith family business dealings as well as organising the entire household.
Katie
Katie, Steves eldest daughter has always been involved within the Smith family empire having started working for her uncle 10 years ago before taking on the accounts for the family businesses.
Katie is Steves PA and manages a multi-million pound bridging fund and the families property portfolio.
Ashley
Ash is Steven’s eldest son and has experience with online retail, distribution, packaging, property, marketing, technology and has a passion for buying. Ash founded Poundshop.com a highly successful online retail business and is currently working for Poundland.
Joe
Joe is the youngest of Steven and Tracy’s children and is experienced in online retail, distribution, and packaging. Joe has a passion for IT and technology and currently works at Poundland in the IT department.
Joe is the co-founder of Poundshop.com
